The Hangout Spot is all about positive impact and outcomes. Below are some success stories that illustrate how we’ve helped to socially empower our learners!
Lucas – Age 3*
Lucas is an adventurous youngster who has trouble staying focused and sharing. He wants what he wants and doesn’t succeed in group play settings. His language skills are age appropriate.
- Help Lucas tolerate and accept other’s play ideas
- Help Lucas understand the benefits of sharing and actively engaging with his peers
- Help Lucas succeed in expanded group environments and to successfully navigate more complex levels of play
- Match Lucas in a playgroup with peers who complement his skills and deficits
- Create a targeted plan that will support Lucas’ progress against our predetermined goals
- Deliver a program that allows Lucas to successfully apply his new skills in a natural environment
- Build Lucas’ confidence in adapting to new situations and people that moves him from fearfulness to curiosity

Abby – Age 11*
Abby is a struggling 6th grader who can’t seem to find her place. She’s shy and awkward around peers while desperately wanting to fit in. Abby avoids shifting her eye gaze and checking in with others. Abby also loves making her own jewelry!
- Help Abby improve her self-confidence and interact more successfully to make new relationships
- Help Abby respond to peers appropriately and improve her basic conversation skills
- Help Abby identify and channel her “strengths” and use them to her social advantage
- Match Abby to a peer group where she can advance her social skills and learn to better read and interpret verbal and non-verbal cues
- Define a strategy that Abby can employ and depend upon to overcome her anxiety
- Practice conversational techniques that give Abby the confidence to generalize her new abilities and to develop meaningful reciprocal relationships around her
- Abby’s social anxiety has greatly diminished. She no longer dreads interactions and brings a new level of self confidence to peer relations
- Abby is actively seeking out groups and individuals who share her passion and is starting a jewelry making club at school
- Abby was invited to her first sleepover. She’s not sure if she’ll go, but she’s seriously thinking about it!
Justin – Age 17*
Justin eats, drinks and sleeps cars. Unfortunately, he better relates to cars than people. He’s a good student and college bound in the fall. Justin’s parents are worried about his transition due to his tendency to self isolate and avoid social contacts that don’t align with his passion.
- Help Justin understand why he’s mistrusting of people and their intentions and help him understand the benefits of deeper interactions
- Help Justin expand his circle of interests to allow for increased social opportunities
- Help Justin successfully prepare for the transition to a new and unfamiliar environment
- Match Justin to a group of peers with varying and diverse interests that they are also extremely passionate about
- Define a strategy that Justin can employ to open himself up to new experiences and connections
- Construct a plan for making Justin’s first 30 days at college a success
- Justin’s finished his freshman year, and his roommate is visiting over summer break, and they are taking a road trip to the shore
- Justin volunteered to drive his sister’s swim team to morning practices
- Justin is excited about going back to school
